Creation is Salvation

It is difficult for me to explain creation. It is something that consumes you, passes through you, takes you for a ride. Then, vanishes. In the moment, it is breathtakingly beautiful. There is something so right about it. It is both serene and exhilarating. It feels like home. An athlete gets in the zone. A monk experiences tranquility. A writer goes with the flow. A painter becomes visionary. It all comes from the same place. The spectral void from where all things come. The godly sentinel delivering the otherworldly to our realm. Tap into creation. Awaken your imagination. Share your ... Read More »

The Story of Thich Quang Duc

thich-quang-duc

His name was Thich Quang Duc and he was a classical and inspirational Buddhist monk in every way. He was born in Vietnam and began his religious studies at the age of 7, his uncle as his mentor. At the age of 20, he was ordained a monk and traveled to a mountain in south-central Vietnam to advance his spiritual education. He spent 3 years in isolation on that mountain, free to seek the spiritual guidance that the all too prevalent distractions of modern society so effectively veil. There are legitimate ... Read More »

Discovering Your Personality

Discovering Your Personality

I’d like to preface this article by saying that there is very little science when it comes to personality tests. Personalities are complex and mostly impossible to quantify. However, they’re fun to take and the results can be interesting or perhaps eye-opening, just don’t take them too literally. The Origins of Personality Tests Isabel Briggs Myers created the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator with her mother, Katharine Cook Briggs, during World War II as a means to help women find suitable jobs in the war-time economy. They based their tests off the Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung, whom did much work with ... Read More »

Non-aggression 101

voluntary

The non-aggression principle (NAP) is a philosophical axiom which states that it is inherently wrong to initiate or threaten force. An individual or group aggressing against another individual or group is committing an illegitimate act. While initiating violence is forbidden, self-defense resisting violence (when reasonable) is considered moral, and is encouraged to prevent further aggression.   Well, What Counts As “Force”? Force, by NAP standards, is defined as any violent act committed against another person or his legitimately acquired property. This includes assault, murder, theft, rape, vandalism, etc. You own yourself and have free will. Fraud is not allowed ... Read More »
